In the mid 90s while working in a corporate job, I heard the term "doula," an odd word describing someone who assists at the time of birth. I soon realized that a doula was what I’d been waiting to become, that doula work would become my passion.
I trained to be a certified birth doula with DONA, the most widely known doula association in the world, added extensive breastfeeding education and now offer childbirth education classes both privately and through local hospitals. Helping families as a postpartum doula completes the circle of knowledge, service and care that I offer.
My experience and education have grown since starting my practice in Walnut Creek California in 1996. After raising two terrific daughters, I relocated to Portland in 2006, and have found it a welcoming vibrant community of women and their support systems. After more than 200 birth and postpartum clients, I find the desire to encourage and assist pregnant women and new mothers/families stronger than ever.
As a birth doula, I offer support to pregnant women and their partner before, during, and after birth to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I will draw on my knowledge and experience to provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. I am independent and self-employed. As your birth doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver (doctor, midwife, etc.) or hospital.
